Discover the Great Past of Gobindgarh Fort With IHWF

India Walk Heritage Festival presents you the Gobindgarh Fort tour on 16th Feb 2019, from 4:00 pm – 06:00 pm. All bookings for this walk are powered by Odigos.

Amritsar also known as the city of ‘Golden Temple’ founded in 1577 by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das Ji on the site granted by the Mughal emperor Akbar. Amritsar is the most admire sites of the World. It is the home to hundreds and thousands of Sikhs as well as the most important religious spot for Sikhs. The city has its rich history to offer like – Jallianwala Bagh and Gobindgarh Fort.

Gobindgarh Fort was built by Gujar Singh Bhangi as a mud fortress and became famous as ‘Bhagian da Qilla’. He owned it for 49 years. The fort was renovated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh between 1805 and 1809 and renamed after the name of Sikh’s 10th guru, Guru Gobind Singh. The fort served as the camp for immigrants from Pakistan at the time of India – Pakistan partition. After the independence, the fort was controlled over by Indian army and is now administered under Indian Defence Force.


The walk will be led by Amita Sharma. She has been actively working as a theatre artist from last 15 years and also a part of alumni of National School of Drama, Delhi. She has presented many national and international festivals like – Bharat Rang Mahotsava-New Delhi, NAPA Theatre Festival – Karachi. She also work as a creative head at Dastak, Amritsar.

This will be a free guided tour. The meeting point is Outside Gobindgarh fort, Quila Gobindgarh Chowk, Inside Lohgarh Gate and the time is 03:45 pm.

  • Photography is not allowed inside the galleries and during the 7D show.
  • Paid parking facilities are available opposite the main entrance. Parking fees are to be borne by the participant.
  •  An entry fee of Rs 160/- is to be borne by the participant.
  •  Please wear comfortable shoes and carry drinking water.
